Did you know that National Poetry Month is the largest reading celebration in the world? It’s true! Poets.org states that tens of millions of participants from around the nation participate in making poetry part of their lives each April.

As with any celebration, there are countless ways to participate and show your appreciation. Below is a short list of ways you can get involved, both in and out of the classroom.

  1. Attend an event near you with friends or go solo
  2. Carry a poem in your pocket that you can share with family, friends and co-workers
  3. Start drafting a Mother’s Day card using poetry
  4. Use chalk to write a poem in the sidewalk (this is also a fun way to welcome the spring weather!)

I will celebrate by sharing poems on our social media channels throughout the entire month of April, so stay tuned!

Have you thought about what you will do to show your appreciation for poetry? The month has just begun and there should be no excuses as to why you can’t join in on the fun. Be sure to share with us what you took part in!
